Chasing My Tail

Image
Today is my last day to work on the camper before I prepare for the holidays, so I wanted to make the most of it. I will preface by saying I absolutely despise pausing my work on something and coming back, especially when there's others working with me because stuff I put away is never where I leave it and then I can't find it. I started the morning by powering up with some caffeine, then ventured outside to see what I could get into. Immediately I noticed there was a lot of leftover trash on the ground from DH and his worker doing the roof and sealing the cap on the RV.  I opened the camper door and walked in and triaged what needed to be done. The other worker would be here in the next few days to start on the flooring, so I wanted to be sure the flooring in the master closet had a good coat of Kilz on it to block the mildew odor and seal it up. I went to the shop and checked all my usual hidey-holes for my quart of Kilz. Nothing. I checked a few out of the way bins. Nothing....

The Point of No Return

I've been at work the last few days, and while that gives me a physical break from the RV, it also gives me time to peruse Facebook Marketplace and Amazon for things we need.  Yesterday I was able to wheel and deal and get flooring for the camper. The flooring I was considering was at minimum $2.60/sf and we would need about 330sf to complete the project (about $858 plus tax). I found a very similar color to the one I had chosen however it was a much nicer brand and usually ran about $4.50/sf, the seller had 324s/f for sale for $300. A heck of a deal and DH couldn't even bring himself to negotiate on the price, even though it was a 2 1/2-hour drive to pick it up.  I got off work early today with all the intentions of sanding cabinets, however when I spoke to DH on the phone, he let me know that his worker was at the house pulling carpet out of the camper.  *Deep breath* ~This is the point of no return~ See, prior to this we could have cleaned the carpets if poss...

Giving a Bit of Grace

Image
It's been a week since I was able to actually do anything with the RV. My hours at the hospital vary, but I usually work three 12-hour shifts, one overnight call shift (11-7), and one weekend day every two weeks on top of that, so in total it's between 44 and 68 hours a week on call and at the hospital. Every few weeks it all adds up to be the perfect storm and call plus my hours plus Mercury in retrograde or some sort of fresh hell makes all my shifts line up and I get my ass handed to me.  I was able to get away early from the hospital on Friday, but I was on call that night, so I didn't want to get involved in a messy project and then potentially be called back in to take care of someone. I decided instead to run to Ace Hardware and pick up my paint and some rollers to have on hand for the weekend in case I was able to break away and get some RV time in. I finalized my color choices and switched the lightest white out for a greener hue versus the pink-tinged white that I...

Two Truths and a Lie

Image
The next two weeks were a whirlwind of destruction. The teardown always made me nervous because 9/10 of the time, that was where you were really going to see the mess you were in. Before we even touched anything, I took about 150 photos of the interior and exterior of the RV and measured EVERYTHING.  From slide openings to windows to heights, number of doors, number of cabinet hinges and pulls and widths, lights, shower doors, floor lengths, stair heights, cabinet doors, you name it. I've been through this too many times. Normally I get all the measurements and go inside and sketch a drawing with the measurements on it so when I go to a home improvement store, I have it all with me on paper to know how much of what (flooring, paint, cabinet hardware) I need and I have pictures in my phone to go with it. And yes, I do realize I swap between fractions and decimals, but I know my point. I unpacked the camper of all of its supplies in all the crevices, cabinets, and cargo holds-that to...
