Breaking Bad
I've not been good lately. 😬
I'm supposed to be studying my homework and writing numerous papers for my Bachelor's classes online....but I just can't bring myself to focus on that. I don't have a mind that goes in different directions, once I'm on a track, that's the track I stay on for the duration. And apparently the track I'm on is fixing the camper.
Don't get me wrong, I love to write. But I don't love to write about boring stuff and things I'm forced to write about. 😑
So I decided to skip school this week and work on the camper instead. A little playing hooky. Skipper-ooskies. A lil skipper-doo. 👍 It sounds so much more fun when I say it that way and not reality-I laid out of working on a paper and I'll be be paying for it this weekend when I don't have time to do anything else while I'm catching up on classwork. 😒
Saturday I did nothing but sleep. I worked 3-12's in a row and was on call the night of the last 12hr shift, so I didn't sleep soundly and was exhausted Saturday. The only thing I did manage to do was order the lighting for the camper. All of the fixtures. I asked DH to wait until I was able to put hands on them and tell him where they needed to go before he started hanging them up.
Sunday, I got moving around and did a touch up final coat on the white semigloss trim in the camper. I realized the new brush I bought was extremely efficient at touching up the smaller areas and was easier for my small hand to work with. Once that was done, I washed the brush and got the green paint back out. I started working on touching up the cabinets I had hung already and the tape boo-boos, then started on the stuff upstairs. I painted the bathroom cabinet, the bedroom cabinets, the bedroom closet surround, and the underside of the bed.
DH started the process of changing out the faucets and shower head. He did the bathroom sink first, then the shower head. The new ones look nice but I forgot to snap a pic of the shower.
Later on that day, as I was doing the second coat on the bedroom cabinets, I felt something crawling on my back. Anyone who knows me knows I am NOT a fan of roaches, especially the disgusting flying palmetto bugs. I had taken enough cabinets apart in the camper to know the creepie crawlies had housed themselves up in there at one point, including a couple of mice that I found a nest for. I smacked myself on the back, then grabbed my tank top and pulled it around me to see the back. Nothing.
I felt something shift again under my shirt, so I ripped the tanktop off and swatted my back with it. Nothing. I threw the tank on the bed stand and kept painting in my sports bra and yoga pants.
A few minutes later I hear a familiar 'Yoo hoo!' from the door.
"Hang on a minute, I ain't got a shirt on!"
Dad had come to check on us and show off his new truck. It was about time for me to start winding up the day's work anyway, so I shimmied my shirt back on and went out to see his truck.
After checking out the new truck, it was time to get ready to take the kiddos out to dinner. I had been promising them we would go try out the new Mexican restaurant for weeks now, but I never found time.
I was glad we stopped and took the time to check it out, the restaurant was really nice and the food was delicious. Margaritas were good too.
Monday I had a doctor's appointment, so my day was halved. The first part of the day I spent taking things apart that needed to be painted, like the doors off the cabinets and removing drawers. I also took the hardware off everything.
I've had a change of thought on the doors of the cabinets in the bathroom and bedroom, I think I'm going to sand them down and stain them with the dark stain I used on the table and spice rack. I think it will be a nice change from the green on green for the upper half.
DH worked on installing the new sink faucet. I didn't think about it at the time, but I purchased a home sink faucet.
This made it necessary for DH to run to the hardware store to pick up a male to male connector, but it wasn't expensive or a hard item to find fortunately, so that was a quick fix.

| Looks good! There's a small gap where the holes were at, but not enough to worry about. |
While he worked on that, I continued on painting the green on the cabinets and doors. I found that painting them with this new brush puts on an even coat and it dries without bubbles or being gummy. After all these years of painting cabinets, trying to roll them, I figured out the secret is just a damned good brush. 🙌
I spent the rest of the day touching up green paint, removing tape, putting hardware on cabinet doors and hanging them. The samples of pressed copper backsplash came in the mail today, so I used tape to stick them to the wall to see how they look.
I need about 7 more I think to complete the project, so I wrote the company to see about getting a single sheet, which is 2ftx4ft, instead of paying $150 for 5 sheets in a pack.
The more cabinet doors I put on, the darker I realized it was getting. I touched up a few more doors and attached the rest of what I could in the kitchen and put the paint up. I focused my attention on cleaning the fridge off, all the 'overspray' from when I originally rolled the fridge months ago. A Clorox wipe scrubbed over it seems to work well paired with some elbow grease.
There are a few things I have to take care of, like one of the cabinet doors got cracked in the shuffle of cabinets back and forth while the flooring was being finished, so I'll have to borrow Dad's clamps again to glue the wood back together properly before painting it.
There's also a shit ton of paint drops and splatter on the new LVP. I'm hoping Mr. Clean makes some sort of magic eraser mop I can scrub the floors with, then wash and wax them before arranging the furniture.
The fridge, unfortunately, I had forgotten about being closed up and has molded exponentially. The smell is not horrid, but more of a musty scent. I think with some airing out and a good bleach scrub, it'll be ready to use. The big clean is coming soon and will include wiping out all the interiors of cabinets, vacuuming under cabinets, wiping down mirrors and unpainted areas, and scrubbing the floors. It's almost time!
So, that's been my weekend in a nutshell! I work for the next few days, so camper work will be spotty, but hopefully this coming weekend I'll be able to put some hours in.
